Every Thursday I feature a “throwback” post from my blog archive. The goal is to take a look back and discover new lessons or new opportunities to grow. This week, we’ll look back at “Recharge.” You can view the original post here. For today, here’s a quick recap and a few more thoughts about our felt need to always be “on top of our game.”
As I was scanning my blog archive for this week’s throwback post, this post jumped out pretty quickly. When I initially wrote this post almost 5 years ago, most of my possessions were packed up getting ready for me to move from Colorado to Nebraska. I was in a grieving process over the home and the life I thought I would live long-term. At the same time, I was filled with excitement about this new season and new adventure. Trying to process these feelings was difficult and confusing. Adding the complicated logistics of the move to the mix left my family and me feeling overwhelmed.

This week, I find myself in a similar place for very different reasons. Quite a few projects and needs have stacked up and I have found myself a little overwhelmed. Often times in these situations, I find myself stuck. With so many things to do, I can’t decide what to do, so, instead of doing something, I often do nothing. I seem to lack the answers to the questions and the power to move forward. That’s why this post from those years ago spoke to me this week. I need to be reminded that in times like this, I need to run to Jesus. He is the giver of life, energy, and wisdom. In times like this, I don’t need more “grit*,” I need more of Him. In the times when I am overwhelmed, I need to be reminded of what I was reminded of then.
“For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.”
2 Corinthians 4:6-7
Whether you are packing up and moving to a new state or staring at an overinflated to-do list, this truth stands strong. We don’t have to have all the answers. We don’t have to be “on” all the time. We just need to lean into God and His power and take the steps he lays out before us. Be encouraged, all we need to do is show up faithfully. Plug into His power, and he’ll do the rest.
*I’m not saying you shouldn’t have grit. Grit is an awesome thing to develop. What I am saying is that our own willpower can only take us so far.
